At the end of our first successful year at Hawthorne Farm we decided to diverge in to pedigree sheep. After extensive research into a variety of breeds we chose Texel for there adaptability, reliability, hardiness, and its ability to produce the ideal butchers lamb for today's market. Not only are Texel the producers favourite choice, they are the most dominant terminal sire breed in the UK.
At the Irish National Society Show & Sale in Dungannon we purchased Springhill Onslow who was placed winner of the Shearling Ram Class, Reserve Male Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion on the day. Furthermore, we acquired ten ewes from flocks such as Springhill, Milestonehill, Mainview, Duvarren and Ballynahone Flocks to name a few.
Our primary aim in the Hawthorne Flock is to keep numbers small in order to breed high quality rams suited to the Northern Irish commercial lamb producer, while also breeding ewes for the pedigree Texel breeder alike.
